Born in France and raised in Tokyo and London, Alex chose to study in the United States. In 1983, two years after graduating from Bates College, Alex joined an international jewelry firm based in New York where he could put his duel-citizenship and multi-lingual abilities to use. His affinity for gems and jewels became immediately obvious. After years of world travel and expert training, he decided to strike out on his own.
First established in 1990, ProVockative Gems, Inc. began as a reliable wholesale source for manufacturers designers and retailers, and grew into a trusted, global force in the world of magnificent legacy jewels. Fueled by a passion for nature’s treasures and an interest in world history and economics, Alex combined these passions building a professional reputation for sincerity, product knowledge and market savvy.
This professional journey has brought him to the far reaches of the globe, advising interior ministers and museums, collaborating with other collectors and companies, all of which gives him an extraordinary network of experts who share his passion and trust his insights.
Alex has been profiled in the fact-based novel “Tears of Mermaids” by Steven Bloom and has been featured as an expert in multiple articles of internationally recognized magazines such as Pearl World, The International Pearling Journal, and diamond industry pillar publication Rapaport, among other publications. He had also served five years on the board of the Cultured Pearl Association of America and has been a featured speaker at the Gemological Association of America, Tiffany & Co., and the American Society of Jewelry Historians.
